Conference Announcement
Speaking Citizens: Oracy and Citizenship in UK Education
26th-28th January 2022 | Hosted online
Speaking Citizens is an AHRC-funded project bringing together educators and researchers to promote citizenship education through talk. Since 2020 we have been working with primary and secondary teachers, policymakers and partner organisations to provide new evidence for how citizenship education can be taught through a focus on speech.
We’re hosting a major online conference on 26-28 January 2022, to which you are all invited!
The event will bring together key players in the debates around oracy, citizenship and dialogic education in c21st Britain, organised around a series of roundtables and practitioner-focused sessions devoted to our key questions:
- How can citizenship education be developed through a focus on speech and language skills?
- What can a historical perspective bring to current debates over speaking and listening?
- In what ways do young people currently perform acts of citizenship, both within and outside of the classroom?
- To what extent are pupils’ diverse and multiple cultures, identities and heritages embraced by, and encouraged in, UK citizenship education?
Our first call for participation will be announced in due course. Watch this space and follow us on Twitter at @SpeakingCitz
